I've been scheduled. Finally, we have a go for chemo. I am scheduled to have my portacath surgery this coming Wednesday morning at Boundary Trails in Winkler/Morden. Another very early morning, ugh! It's a day surgery, that is scheduled for first thing in the morning, and I should be leaving the hospital just before lunch hour. I understand that I might feel a bit of pain from the portacath, here's hoping not since you all know how much I despise pain meds. I have a follow up appt with cancercare on the Friday to make sure the portacath is a go, and chemo is scheduled for the following Monday, Oct. 25th.
It's a little surreal...feels a like things are happening fast, yet at the same time, looking back, it's been a long time coming. It's difficult to believe that I first presented to the doctor was in late May, and here we are...
My goal in the next week pre-chemo includes spending quality time with my family & my friends, and to eat all the tasty food that I can! I understand that amongst the many side effects of chemo, one that seems to be commonplace, which I shudder at is the loss of taste. My taste buds are likely to go a little wonky on me, and I likely will not be able to enjoy the gastronomical adventures that I love! Food! Yum! I'm the one who will choose a vacation spot based on the food that I will be consuming. So as a result, I plan to have as many culinary experiences as possible before the possibility of not enjoying them as much in the future. (I actually began this a few weeks ago already...but I'm going to step it up a notch).
Thanks for checking in again...got to go play playdoh!
