Oh....Canada!!!

I am proud to be Canadian! But...Really??? Our medical system sometimes leaves me to wonder... i received a call today by the nuclear medicine department at St. B., and was informed that my Bone Scan scheduled for Monday needed to be canceled due to a Canada-wide shortage of the medicine that's required for it. Rescheduled for Oct. 7th, one month from now. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now, since perhaps the test is not that important for me at this moment? I have had several people today comment that it has to do with a more global shortage of the isotopes required due to problems at the plant that produces them. Hmmmm....

Aside from this, my CT Scan today was uneventful, thankfully. I had thought it was going to be much more involved, and difficult than it was. Most of my time, close to 1 1/2 hrs. was spent drinking the "potion" they concoct for you, which reminded me of the orange drink I used to get at school when it was McDonald's day. Not very palatable. Thank you Michelle for keeping me company through that. The actual CT Scan was a smaller device than I expected, they asked me to put both my arms above my head which was a little difficult to do with the one arm where my lymph nodes were removed, but it was manageable. I had to hold my breath for short periods of time, they injected me via iv with something...i forget details when no one is there with me to take notes, and then i felt some warm sensations in my body as the machine moved. I was informed that it would feel like I peed my pants, and that no one believes that they indeed didn't...it was just a weird warm sensation that makes you think that something happened, but I knew that I didn't pee! Although after drinking all those glasses of McD's orange drink, it's very possible that you could. This part took less than 10 min. It was just the prep that took the longest. The waiting.... It was great to walk out of the hospital into sunshine this afternoon.

That's about it for now. Have a call in to Dr Mac to see if my pathology is ready...still waiting to hear, but have a tentative appt with her next Thurs. now. I think that I will call her tomorrow though to ask some more specific questions about the delay in the Bone Scan, and what that means for me.

Thanks to Steve & Kathy for taking my kids today! They had sooo much fun!
